How to use subtasks to break down tasks (Pro Team Plans)

Introduction

Subtasks help you break down larger tasks into more manageable steps, which improves organization and tracking.

This feature is only available for Pro Team plans.

Steps

Step 1: Open the main task

  1. Access the Projects application

  2. Open the task you want to break down

Step 2: Add subtasks

  1. Locate the Subtasks section

  2. Click on Add a subtask

  3. Enter the details of the subtask:

    • Title

    • Description

    • Assignee

    • Due date

    • Priority

    • Status

Step 3: Manage subtasks

  1. Track progress independently

  2. Update statuses as work progresses

  3. Manage assignments separately from the main task

Step 4: Control completion

  1. Mark subtasks as completed

  2. Track the overall progress of the task through the completion of subtasks

Simplified Steps

  1. Open a task

  2. Click on Add a subtask

  3. Enter the details of the subtask

  4. Assign and set due dates

Tips

  • Limit subtask size: create manageable tickets

  • Set clear deadlines: each subtask should have its own start and due dates.

  • Assign correctly: distribute subtasks among team members

  • Track dependencies: Note which subtasks depend on others
